Outdoor Learning
Outdoor learning compliments indoor learning and is equally important. It encompasses all that children do, see, hear or feel in the outdoor space and supports the development of healthy and active lifestyles. All our services provide learning environments outdoors which are as varied and diverse, as each setting and the children and staff who make use of the space. Each service whether small or large, sunny or shaded will have unique features that affect the way it can be developed and used. However despite the variation in size and design, the concept of identifiable common elements maintain that outdoor play and learning has a positive impact on children.
Being outdoors supports children’s developing awareness of personal health and safety. The child begins to understand about weather and climate ‘sun safe’ and hygiene routines after handling soil, sand etc. Each service maintains and monitors the vital safety features of security through a secure entrance, exit and boundaries to allow children to explore the areas freely.
